Italy – Bay of Naples 2016

During the Easter holidays 40 year 8 pupils embarked on an adventurous journey to the Bay of Naples in Italy. For some it was their first time on a plane and for many it was their first time away from their parents. Pupils enjoyed a variety of activities both geographical and historical. Visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum left the pupils amazed at what life was like almost 2000 years ago and the impact a volcano could have on its surroundings. A trip up to the top of Mt Vesuvius partly by walking and taking a 4×4 allowed us all to take in the stunning views of the crater and the Bay.

Solfatara volcano was another incredible experience where the rotten egg smell of sulphur filled the air and hot fumaroles could be seen along with bubbling mud pools. We explored some of the many dark tunnels underneath the city of Naples, at times squeezing through exceptionally narrow spaces.

We all had our fair share of Italian food dining at a pizzeria and getting involved in the making and tasting of gelato. One of the evenings involved a game of bowling where pupils had the opportunity to show off their amazing skills. We were very fortunate with the weather as it was sunny and very warm for the duration of our trip. All had a fantastic time and will be remembered by many for years to come.
